ABOUT JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a statutory body established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to conduct entrance examinations into tertiary institutions and to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible admission process across the country.

JAMB coordinates admissions into Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, and Monotechnics through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).

AVAILABLE UNIVERSITY CATEGORIES

1. Federal Universities

Owned and funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria. They are widely recognized for academic standards and affordable tuition.

2. State Universities

Established and managed by State Governments to cater to educational needs within their states.

3. Private Universities

Owned by individuals, religious bodies, or organizations and approved by the Federal Government through the National Universities Commission (NUC).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination)

  • Minimum of five (5) O’Level credits including English Language
  • Subjects relevant to the chosen course
  • Valid National Identification Number (NIN)
  • Participation in UTME and Post-UTME screening

DIRECT ENTRY (DE)

  • O’Level requirements as applicable
  • ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB, or equivalent qualifications
  • JAMB Direct Entry registration

ADMISSION PROCESS (STEP-BY-STEP)

  1. Create JAMB Profile using NIN
  2. Register for UTME or Direct Entry
  3. Sit for the JAMB examination
  4. Check UTME results
  5. Apply for Post-UTME/Screening
  6. Monitor CAPS for admission status
  7. Accept admission and print admission letter

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Admission is based on merit, catchment area, and educationally less developed states (ELDS)
  • Candidates must ensure correct subject combinations
  • Change of Institution/Course is allowed within the admission period
