Candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria through the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry (DE) are required to create a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) profile ahead of registration.

The JAMB profile creation process is mandatory and serves as the first step toward participating in the examination. Below is a step-by-step guide on how prospective candidates can create their profiles successfully.
Obtain a Valid National Identification Number (NIN)
Prospective candidates must possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN). They are advised to verify that their personal details—such as name, date of birth, and gender—are correctly captured. Any discrepancies should be corrected at a National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) centre before proceeding.
Use a Personal and Active Phone Number
Candidates are required to use a personal and active phone number that has not been used by another candidate. The phone number will be permanently linked to the candidate’s JAMB profile throughout the admission process.
Create Profile via SMS
Using the personal phone number, candidates should send a text message in the following format:
NIN (space) 11-digit NIN number
to 55019 or 66019. e.g Type:
NIN (space) Your 11-digit NIN
Example:
NIN 12345678901
Send to 55019 or 66019
The SMS attracts a service charge of ₦50.
Receive Profile Code
Upon successful submission, JAMB will send a 10-digit profile code to the candidate via SMS. This profile code is essential for the purchase of the JAMB e-PIN and completion of UTME or DE registration.
Address Errors Promptly
Candidates who receive error messages during the process are advised to visit a NIMC centre for NIN-related issues or approach a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre for further assistance.
Proceed to Registration
With the profile code, candidates can proceed to accredited CBT centres or authorized platforms to purchase the JAMB e-PIN and complete their registration, including biometric capture.
Important Advisory
JAMB cautions candidates against creating multiple profiles or using shared phone numbers, as this could lead to disqualification. Candidates are also advised to keep their SIM cards active throughout the admission exercise.
The Board has encouraged prospective candidates to create their profiles early to avoid last-minute challenges once registration for the 2026 UTME and Direct Entry officially commences.
